Simponi is a biologic molecule that works to reduce the inflammatory response by blocking the activity of Tumour Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-alpha). TNF-alpha plays an important role in the inflammatory processes of the body, and blocking its activity can reduce the inflammation contributing to disease pathology. Simponi is supplied in the form of an injectable solution packaged in a pre-filled pen.
What is it made of?
Simponi is made of the following ingredients: golimumab (100 mg), sorbitol, polysorbate 80, L-histidine, L-histidine monohydrochloride monohydrate, water for injection.
What are its uses?
Simponi is a medication prescribed for the treatment of several chronic inflammatory diseases, which include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis, ulcerative colitis, and ankylosing spondylitis. This drug is recommended as second-line therapy, after widely used medications like methotrexate have failed to produce a satisfactory clinical response. This drug may be used on its own or in combination with other DMARDs. It is administered as a subcutaneous injection.
How long do its effects last?
Simponi must be taken on an ongoing basis in order to sustain its clinical response.
