The SMB TCu 380A with Safeload is a copper intrauterine device (IUD) used for contraception. It is manufactured by the SMB Corporation of India.
What is it made of?
The SMB TCu 380A with Safeload consists of a T-shaped device made of a compound of barium sulphate and low-density polyethylene. Around the frame, there is 176mg of copper wire wound around measuring 0.25mm in diameter. The arms of the device also contain two copper sleeves covering a surface area of 380mm2. At the bottom of the T, a high density polyethylene filament is attached for easy removal.
What is SMB TCu 380A with Safeload’s uses?
This device is indicated for contraceptive use in women of childbearing age, including adolescents and women over 40 who have previously given birth or had an abortion.
How long do its effects last?
The SMB TCu 380A with Safeload can remain in the uterus for up to 12 years.
