Additional Information

Monovisc

Buy Monovisc for your patients that suffer chronic pain from knee joint osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common kind of arthritis in the world, and millions suffer from the pain caused by the progressive disease. Monovisc is a solution offered once some of the other non-surgical ones aren’t working as well.

What makes a good candidate?

This product is intended for use on patients that have tried other solutions for the pain from osteoarthritis like rehabilitation gear, weight loss, and analgesic consumption.

Areas Treated with Monovisc

The solution targets the knees that have been experiencing pain from osteoarthritis.

How does Monovisc work?

Monovisc is intended as a treatment for those patients that have tried both non-pharmaceutical (exercise, physical therapy, mobility support gears, etc.) and pharmaceutical (over the counter medication and prescription medication) treatments and have yet to find the right one to help them manage the pain from their bones in the knees rubbing against each other.

The solution is formulated with a high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate, and then processed into a gel which can replace the missing synovial fluid in the damaged joints, which is more often than not the main cause of the pain and/or inflammation in the knee joint. The injection will implant the gel which acts as a lubricant between the bones, making it so the bones move without having the friction that causes the pain.

Treatment Details

Only licensed medical professionals are allowed to apply this treatment on patients. The doctor needs to make sure there isn’t any accumulated fluid on the targeted joint, and if there is, it should be removed completely and discard the needle used afterwards. Attach a suitable needle, either 18 or 21G to the prefilled syringe, and inject the targeted joint intra-articularly with the implant gel into the joint synovial space after proper sanitation of the injection area.

A single dose will suffice if Monovisc is used. The amount of gel is dependent on the severity of the damage, and will be up to the doctor’s discretion.

How long does Monovisc last?

The treatment is observed to last up to six months, but the results may still vary as it depends on the patient’s physiology and lifestyle.

Safety Information

Being both FDA approved and CE marked, it is obvious that Monovisc has one of the highest safety profiles out there. There are things that should be noted before treatment though. Treatment should not be continued if there is any sign of inflammation or infection near the target injection area. Children, breastfeeding mothers, and pregnant women should also not use this product. Any patients with systemic bleeding disorders should also be extra careful.

Other Side Effects

These are usually mild and will disappear by themselves. If they last for more than a week, the patient is recommended to immediately call the doctor.

  • Arthalgia
  • Temporary swelling
  • Pain in the treated area
  • Allergic reactions

Recovery Time

For at least 2 days after injection, the patient should avoid strenuous activity or any weight-bearing activity. They should also avoid standing for longer than 1 hour at a time.

Cost of Monovisc

The average cost per package is around $98 and will include one 4ml pre-filled syringe in the box.

Bottom line

When it comes to easing the pain from knee osteoarthritis, Monovisc is one of, if not the best choice out there. Not only has it been proven to be extremely effective, it is also very efficient needing only a single treatment, and it shows an outstanding safety profile too.
